Creator Series: Alain Interview

Welcome back to another installment of our Creator Series—where we spotlight individuals who are redefining what it means to make a house feel deeply personal.

In this episode, we’re stepping into the vibrant world of Alain, the creative mind behind @als.home. Based in the Northeast of France, Alain’s home is an unapologetic celebration of color, emotion, and self-expression. His journey into design isn’t rooted in trends—it’s rooted in transformation.

Who Is Alain?

Alain is 42 years old and lives in the Northeast of France and living alongside him are his cats. When he isn’t figuring out the next step for his home, the majority of his time is spent running his own business in the IT services sector.

“My life is a balance between the technical rigor of my job and my creative passions.”

Outside of work, Alain immerses himself in interior design, music, video games, photography, and video editing. His daily rhythm reflects this duality—structured days filled with independent business ownership, followed by evenings devoted to styling his home and creating content.

“My daily life is quite full: I work for myself during the day, and in the evening, I take care of my home, my cats, and myself. Once I’m settled in, I dedicate my time to content creation, blending my eye for aesthetics with my digital skills.”

His home is not just a living space—it’s both sanctuary and creative studio.

A Home Reborn Through Change

Alain’s design journey began three years ago during a deeply personal turning point in his life. He shares “This journey really began three years ago. Before that, my style was very industrial and minimalist. However, three years ago, I suddenly lost my sister. We were very close, and following that loss, I felt a vital need for change.”

That change manifested physically in his home. “I needed color and to surround myself with objects I truly love. I’ve always been drawn to color, design, and urban art, but I never dared to fully embrace it before.”

Color became therapy. Design became healing. Objects became emotional anchors. Reflecting on the past year, Alain considers the launch of his Instagram account a major milestone.

“The biggest challenge this past year was finally creating my Instagram account; I posted for the very first time on September 25, 2025. I felt a strong urge to share my universe and interact with people who share the same passions, but I wondered if it would appeal to anyone.”

What has worked, he says, is complete authenticity.

“What has worked for me is creating a space that represents me 100%; it has been a crucial part of rebuilding my life. I am convinced that objects and colors deeply influence our mood and feelings. Sharing my moods, my ‘sympathie,’ and a touch of nostalgia is what makes this journey authentic.”

Alain the Content Creator

For Alain, content creation began with a simple desire of connecting people together. “I started posting because I wanted to share and discuss with people who have the same passion. My goal is to inspire, entertain, or bring joy—if I achieve that, I’ve won everything.”

His creative process is different than most. Most, derive inspirations from outside influences and other designers while Alains style is intuitive. “My inspiration comes from my emotions; I work based on ‘coups de cœur’ (gut feelings) to create unique spaces where every object, from a specific lamp to a piece of art, has a story.”

Looking forward, Alain gave us an idea for what als.home future looks like. “I would love to continue doing collaborations, especially with brands that offer original, colorful, and bold items such as unique lighting, iconic design chairs, or daring furniture pieces. This allows me to keep evolving my space while sharing high-quality design with my followers.”

And in a perfect world?

“In a perfect world, the ‘Als.home’ community wouldn't necessarily be huge, but it would be active—a place where everyone finds something that resonates with them. Sharing my process helps me, and if it helps others too, that’s even better.”

Inside the Colorful Maximalist Home

Without putting Alain’s style in a box, we can describe his style as colorful maximalist. He expands on his choice in style here “I landed in this "colorful maximalist" niche because I needed to fill a void, and  colors provide immense psychological benefits. My philosophy is that bright colors always go  together—it’s impossible to make a mistake if you just dare to try. Living life in color is my  secret to happiness.”

Dissecting his home piece by piece, this is what Alain had to say regarding all the amazing portions that make up his space. His home is filled with playful yet intentional design choices. His Artoys collection represents what he calls his “inner child”—a reminder to preserve joy and imagination in adulthood.

I tend to choose sober furniture to let the colors of the decor take center stage. I choose objects and lamps that speak to me and trigger a feeling.”

Lighting plays a particularly important role in shaping atmosphere.

“Regarding lighting, I love the ‘Bang’ lamp from Bangoibanga for its dreamlike quality and my lava lamp for its soothing effect.”

Diving into some of his favorites within his home. He states “Most of the objects in my home are favorites, otherwise, they wouldn't be here. Some of my  key pieces include my spiral stand from Gustaf Westman, my Smiley lamp, the Keith Haring  Bearbrick, and my Hoptimist figurine. Regarding lighting, I love the "Bang" lamp from  Bangoibanga for its dreamlike quality and my lava lamp for its soothing effect.”

Wrapping up the deep dive into his home, he leaves a reminder that his home is not static, it evolves alongside him.

“My home is constantly evolving as a reflection of my personal growth. Looking forward, I plan to continue adding soul to my space; for example, I am currently looking to acquire a turntable to bring more of my passion for music into my daily decor.”

Advice for Those Starting Their Journey

Alain’s advice for anyone looking to transform their home is beautifully simple.

“My advice for transforming a space is to dare. Don't just follow trends; create a space that reflects who you are. If you feel good in that space, then it is the right decoration for you. Ask yourself: ‘What would make me feel good and bring me joy, peace, or serenity?’ Mix everything together rather than copying one specific universe.”

And for aspiring content creators?

“As for content creation: just go for it. Draw inspiration from others but always add your own signature. Above all, be yourself and share what truly makes you vibrate. If you are authentic, the right people will follow.”

We want to thank Alain for being a great partner and allowing us to share his home and a little bit about himself. Stay tuned for the next series as we continue Alains practice of building and connecting people together through interior design.
